Peanut Underground is pleased to present Berlin-based artist Saskia Hahn’s inaugural New York exhibition, $ASKIA : ICONS!?
This exhibition examines the spectacle of voyeurism and the cultural mythology of rock and roll. Drawing on the aesthetics of rock, punk, and pop art, Saskia‘s hypnotic paintings suggest parallels between the concept of creative authenticity and the culture of the gaze. Her work appropriates historic images ranging from Mickey Mouse to Sid and Nancy, Debbie Harry and the Velvet Underground’s Nico, and juxtaposes them with her own imagery using cut-up visual techniques in the tradition of Warhol, Jamie Reid and Shepard Fairey.
In addition to being a visual artist, Saskia is also a performer and musician, most recently closing a two year global tour with the avant-garde performance artist Peaches (they headlined Art Basel Miami Beach in 2010). Both artists themselves, Saskia and Peaches would use their free time while on tour exploring the museums and galleries in the cities where they performed.
Saskia has exhibited work in New York, London and Berlin and is currently working on a new music project called Mine&Hers with her partner Marc-Alan Gray.
