Whatever You Will Remember : Esmeralda Kosmatopoulos

'whatever you will remember" is a body of six videos that investigate human memory mechanisms in the post-Internet age. Each piece illustrates in a visual metaphors one of the many ways human mind records, processes and re-writes factual information and emotional experiences - sublimating, darkening, washing them out ... or digitally capturing them.

Placed side by side, the six works invite the audience to look at the complex and often conflicting relationship between our fallible personal and collective memory and the raw factual documentation of reality at a time where computer-mediated communication is taking over oral conversations, screens are replacing paper, and the Internet is acting as an external shared “objective” memory, profoundly transforming human cognition. 

Esmeralda Kosmatopoulos is a multi-disciplinary conceptual artist. She has lived her life surrounded by unique cultures—born in Greece, raised in Paris—she now lives and works in NY. Her work investigates the definition and construction of identities, personal memories and collective histories in the digital age. Influenced by the increasing interplay between physical and virtual spaces, Kosmatopoulos decontextualize everyday-life objects, cultural symbols and behaviors and translates them into the Internet and social media world.

Her work has exhibited in the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America. Kosmatopoulos also worked alongside socially charged entities such as the Organization of American States (OAS) to create large-scale installations that raise awareness on social issues.

Lee Wells is a conceptual artist, curator, and writer based in New York and Athens Greece. His work questions systems of power and control in society and continues to further the dialogue in the arts and the avant grade. His artwork and projects have been presented internationally, including The Guggenheim Museum, PS1/MoMA, NCCA Moscow, and 51st Venice Biennale, in addition to numerous institutions, festivals, art fairs, and commercial galleries. Wells is a co-founder of Perpetual Art Machine, the video art community portal project and director of IFAC Arts which he founded in 1996. 

IFAC Metaxy Mas Interstesis at IFAC Athina attempts to expand on questions about the space between the true and false, the positive and negative, the public and private, the real and virtual, the finite and infinite and more. Each of these positions manifests a different view regarding Plato's becoming and being; again the place in between each of these poles of experience is metaxy.
